There are many seminal events in one’s life – childhood events, marriage, children, other blessings and even crises that shape who we are. For my wife Tracey and me, the one event that has most dramatically changed our life and affects nearly every aspect of who we are and how we live is the crash that nearly (should have) killed us on September 8th, 1989. We were 27 years old – had been married 4 years, had a new home, our first child and were as happy and healthy as anyone could be. We were truly blessed. But while on vacation to visit Tracey’s family in Florida – we had gone out to dinner to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary when just after midnight, we were struck by a drunk driver as we were driving on the freeway. We collided at speeds greater than 70 mph – producing fire, heat and crushing mechanical forces that the human body is not designed to survive. What happened next was horrific. What happened immediately after was incredible….
